Former President Donald Trump remains at the center of global attention in 2025. In recent weeks, four major developments have highlighted his influence: the ongoing TikTok controversy, a massive lawsuit against The New York Times, U.S. naval operations against Venezuelan drug traffickers, and his historic second state visit to the United Kingdom.

1. Trump Extends TikTok Shutdown Deadline Yet Again

TikTok’s fate in the United States has been hanging in the balance for years. The Trump administration has long argued that the Chinese-owned app poses a national security risk because of its data collection practices and ties to Beijing.

On September 16, 2025, Trump issued an executive order extending the deadline for TikTok’s U.S. operations to be sold to an American buyer. The new deadline is December 16, 2025.
Trump insists a deal is “in motion,” with Oracle and other investors positioned to take over TikTok’s U.S. assets.
Critics argue that the repeated extensions show uncertainty, while supporters see it as a strategic move to secure better terms for American companies.

This is the fourth deadline extension since Trump’s return to office. It signals that while Trump wants to appear tough on China, he’s also keen on ensuring TikTok remains accessible to its 170+ million U.S. users without sparking backlash.

2. A $15 Billion Lawsuit Against The New York Times

In one of the most aggressive legal moves of his political career, Donald Trump has filed a $15 billion defamation lawsuit against The New York Times.

The lawsuit also names several of the paper’s reporters and Penguin Random House, a major book publisher.
Trump accuses them of publishing “false stories” that damaged his reputation and of working as part of what he calls the “radical left media machine.”
His legal team argues that the media has unfairly portrayed him as corrupt, dishonest, and unfit for office.

Whether or not the lawsuit succeeds, it underscores Trump’s long-standing feud with mainstream media. He has often called outlets like The New York Times and CNN “fake news,” but this lawsuit escalates the fight to a whole new level.

Analysts suggest the case is unlikely to succeed in court due to First Amendment protections. However, politically, it rallies Trump’s supporters by reinforcing his narrative of being unfairly targeted by powerful institutions.

3. U.S. Strikes Venezuelan Drug Smuggling Boats

Trump’s foreign policy in his second term has been decisive and aggressive, particularly toward Venezuela.

In mid-September, U.S. forces struck their third alleged drug-running vessel linked to Venezuelan criminal groups, reportedly killing several smugglers.
Trump has linked these operations to the Tren de Aragua gang, a powerful criminal network in Venezuela with global reach.
His administration argues that these actions are necessary to prevent narcotics from flooding into the United States.

Critics, however, warn that these strikes could escalate tensions with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, who has condemned the attacks as violations of sovereignty.

For Trump, the strikes reinforce his “law and order” and “America First” platforms, appealing to voters who want tougher stances on crime and border security.

4. Historic Second State Visit to the United Kingdom

In a move that underscores his global clout, Trump is currently on his second state visit to the UK—an unprecedented honor for a U.S. president.

The visit, which runs September 16–19, 2025, includes a stay at Windsor Castle and meetings with King Charles III and Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
The agenda reportedly includes discussions on a potential U.S.–UK trade deal, NATO commitments, and joint approaches to global crises.
Protests have been organized across London by groups critical of Trump’s policies on climate change, immigration, and foreign conflicts.

Despite the protests, the visit shows Trump’s ability to command international attention and maintain close ties with one of America’s oldest allies.
