Does the Great Blue Heron Migrate?

Yes, the Great Blue Heron does migrate, but its movement patterns depend on where it lives. In northern regions of North America, where lakes and rivers freeze during winter, Great Blue Herons travel south to find open water and food. They often migrate to the southern United States, Mexico, Central America, or the Caribbean. However, herons living in warmer coastal or southern areas may stay in the same place year-round because food remains available.
